META MORPHEUS
October 25 - November 1
Jo Allsop, Hobart Hughes and Penny Simons.
October 25th – November 1st
Open daily 10 – 4pm
Opening Saturday 26th October 4 – 6pm
‘Meta Morpheus’ alludes to and plays with the term metamorphosis, the intention being a chimeric transformation of its original meaning. Meta here is used to describe a subject that transcends its original limits. Morpheus who as the Greek god of dreams and sleep, bears messages from the underworld to be interpreted subliminally by the cognisant self.
In this intriguing show, the artists offer a sense of the subconscious and the sublime. In the main gallery will be a symbiotic salon hang which will flow through to the second gallery into a dreamscape of luminescent works.
The sculptural creations of Hobart Hughes offer both whimsical and sinister characters through mixed media which include ceramic, wood, metal and animation.
Using natural fibres and found objects, Penny Simons expresses her strong connection to the natural world with a philosophical need to avoid waste and create beauty from her chosen materials.
Jo Allsop is a figurative painter who looks for beauty in the mundane and the brilliance of a vast landscape, who takes time to marvel at the impossibility of this world, from the micro to the macro.
