Memories of Country
October 5, 2016 - October 12, 2016
Memories of Country : natural dye and arts storytelling : Exhibition, Art Market and Workshops
Country holds layers of memory – we memorialise our chosen countries using their indigenous dyes and patterns on cloth to reconnect and raise awareness of the history beneath. In remembering we also uncover earlier selves and collective memories from our ancestoral histories.
The Memories of Country exhibition is the combined textile work of 6 artists – Eva Nargoodah from Fitzroy Crossing WA, Tigidankay Daramy from Sierra Leone (now a refugee in Australia), Alison Muir from Sydney, Cleonie Quayle from Pooncarie Paakantj NSW, Kirsten Smith from Awabakal NSW and Maureen Unasa from Samoa.
