Barbara Rogers works with the Shibori technique itajime. Shibori is a Japanese term for a variety of methods for dyeing cloth by binding, stitching, folding, twisting or compressing. There are many ways one can bind, stitch, fold, twist or compress cloth for Shibori, and each way results in very different patterns. Each method is used to achieve a certain result, and each method is used to work in harmony with the type of cloth. The technique used in Shibori depends not only on the desired pattern, but also the cloth being dyed. Different techniques can be used with one another to achieve more elaborate results.
